The First Steps
Rescue Diver Course

The PADI Rescue Diver course is recommended for every certified diver, and is the first step on your way to a professional recreational diving career. PADI Rescue training is invaluable and, even though we hope that you will never have to use your skills in a real situation, the confidence and satisfaction you gain from knowing that you could prevent an emergency, will be with you every time you go near the water.

Theory

Rescue theory helps to prepare you to anticipate problems in or out of the water. You learn how to prevent accidents, and how to control them if they do occur. Instructor presentations are supplemented with the PADI Rescue Diver video.

Practical Application

You practice 12 distinct skill exercises in open water. At the end of the course you will know how to:
  1. Help both tired and panicked divers
  2. Conduct a thorough search & rescue for a missing diver
  3. Administer proper life-support techniques.
Each of these skills is practiced step-by-step and finally combined, to make you comfortable and confident in your new capabilities.

Invaluable Training

Our educational philosophy is to make all training as realistic as possible. Our Rescue Diver course is dedicated to the practical skills, and that means it will also be fun, enjoyable, and interesting. As with all of our diving courses, the Rescue Diver Course can be combined with a live-aboard dive cruise.

Rescue DemonstratonBy earning the Rescue Diver certification, you will be qualified to help prevent diving related problems and help control actual emergencies. The Rescue Diver certification is also a pre-requisite for the Divemaster Course.

A pre-requisite for certification as a PADI Rescue Diver, the PADI Medic First Aid course teaches cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid, enabling you to give assistance at the scene of an accident. As the information is completely unrelated to scuba diving, this one-day course is important training for both divers and non-divers.

Divemaster Course

Real-Life Training

We believe strongly that practical, real-life training is far more interesting, enjoyable and efficient than other approaches. Our Divemaster Course combines PADI's standardized course with nice little extras like boat diving, compressor operations, working with certified divers and, finally, working with the ultimate teachers--real, live students.

Watermanship and Skills Assessment

We help you to improve your diving and swimming skills through pool workshops and swimming tests. We'll show you how to clearly demonstrate these skills in the pool, to not only make you a better diver, but to prepare you for the next step, the Instructor Development Course.

Knowledge Development

During this phase, you develop instructor-level theoretical knowledge through instructor presentations and workbooks. These lectures include physics and physiology, diving tables, equipment, and the diving environment.

Practical Application

The WatchThe most interesting and fun part of the course is when you actually go diving with students and certified divers. You learn the realities of being a PADI professional by assisting your instructor as he teaches different levels of PADI courses. You also learn to help certified divers enjoy themselves as they dive for pleasure on our dive trips. All in all, the two-weeks you spend with us will be some of the most interesting and enjoyable times you've had in your diving career.

The PADI Divemaster Course qualifies you to:
  • Lead diving expeditions
  • Organize diving activity on a boat or off a beach
  • Assist a PADI Instructor at virtually every level of instruction
  • Conduct the PADI Discover Local Diving experience and Scuba Review program for certified divers
  • Conduct the PADI Discover Snorkeling experience and PADI Skin Diver Course
The certification is also a pre-requisite to the Assistant Instructor Course and/or Instructor Development Course.

Assistant Instructor Course

The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course not only provides valuable preparation for Open Water Scuba Instructor training, but also expands skills that enhance an AI's professional capacity. During the course, you'll concentrate on developing an academic presentation style that allows you to effectively conduct classroom sessions The PADI Wheelfor any PADI course. Upon completion, you may choose to go on to an Instructor Development Course, or use your practical knowledge and skills as a professional Assistant Instructor.

Having a PADI Assistant Instructor on staff at PADI Dive Centers and Resorts is desirable since you may conduct several PADI Programs independently or with minimal guidance from a PADI Instructor. Your qualifications allow the dive center or resort to offer a new dimension in training services to fulfill customer needs. Beyond the responsibilities already earned as a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor teaching opportunities include:

  • Certifying students as PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers
  • Conduction the complete Discover Scuba pool experience
  • Conducting the Medic First Aid Course (after additional training as a Medic First Aid Instructor)
  • Certifying students in non-diving specialties such as Equipment Specialist (after earning PADI Specialty Instructor certification

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you help to arrange accommodation, transportation, and other basic needs?

Yes, we have a full-service travel office right here in Phuket. We know the best deals for accommodation, and are familiar with almost every aspect of Phuket. After all, we've been here for ten years.

How can I best prepare for the IDC/IE?

It is important to spend time studying your theory, as this will not be retaught during the IDC Program. By studying, we mean using your PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook and Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving to ensure that you understand all aspects of the diving theory that you will be tested on. During the IDC, we will have a study session and give you a pre-assessment examination. The purpose of the sample exam is to know where you stand with regard to your level of knowledge. We can not emphasize enough that the time to study your theory is before the IDC, not during the IDC. You'll be learning many new things, so you'll want to spend your time learning these new subjects; not reviewing old subjects.

What's so special about your IDC Program?

One of the most important aspects of our course is the emphasis on real-world training. We believe that almost any Course Director can give you enough knowledge to pass the IE if that is your only goal. However, your goal should be to understand the PADI system to the point where you can be a successful employee or owner - a diving professional. In other words, we prepare you for your future; the IE is only a stepping stone. For further information, click here.

Is it possible to `Fail' the IDC Program?

No, it is impossible to fail the IDC - unless you just don't show up - as the IDC is a course, not an exam. Our IDC stresses development. As a result, you can relax while learning, knowing that mistakes are part of the process. Although there are performance requirements for successfully completing the course, there are no time limitations, so you may continue to progress under your Course Director's guidance. The goal is to create a low-stress environment in which you can learn to function as a PADI Instructor. This makes the IDC challenging, yet an enjoyable learning experience. The final evaluation of your knowledge and skills come later during the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).

Must I do the exams in English?

No, PADI has written exams in many different languages, and certainly in all of the major European languages. They are also getting better about the Asian languages as well, and we do have the exams in Thai. Also, it is possible to do your oral teaching presentations in your native tongue if you so desire.

What is average passing rate for the IE?

World-wide, 89%. Out of our last 150 candidates, 97% passed.

What is the most common area of the IE that candidates fail?

Theory exams! Study your theory and be prepared for the IDC. So far, none of our candidates have failed due to low scores on teaching presentations.

When can I begin teaching?

As soon as the paperwork from your IE has be processed by PADI. Depending on your where your permanent address is, this could take between two and eight weeks.

Can I get a job in Thailand?

Yes, it is possible to work in this country at one of the many island resorts, including here in Phuket, Koh Samui, Phi Phi Island, and Koh Tao. We will do our best to help you find a job here if you so choose, and we have been able to place most of our candidates. We have a job placement service as well. For a $40 US fee, in addition to making phone calls to various dive centers for you, we will prepare a professional looking resume (CV), and place your resume on our web site.

If you have further questions that you don't see here please e-mail Bent directly. He is more than happy to personally answer any questions that you may have.
